Spectrum News 1 delivers 24/7 statewide news and original programming

Columbus, Ohio – Spectrum Networks today announced it has launched Spectrum News 1, which introduces a novel approach to statewide news and information. The network will tell stories around the subjects that unite Ohioans, as well as create content for the individual neighborhoods throughout the state about issues that are most prominent to them.

The decision to launch Spectrum News 1 is part of the Networks’ effort to strengthen the individual communities throughout Ohio, and through the recognition that local journalism is vital to maintaining a well-informed, engaged society. Spectrum News 1 journalists have the time, the resources and the mission to tell important stories and to do so in a way only achievable by someone who is of the community.

Through Spectrum News 1, Spectrum Networks is growing its investment in local content to cover the stories that matter most to Ohioans in an in-depth way. Spectrum News 1 will have teams on the ground in Columbus, Cleveland and Cincinnati, as well as reporters dedicated to traveling around the state for in-focus profiles to ensure that the stories that matter most are delivered to Spectrum viewers. And, since what happens in the state government impacts schools, healthcare and the economy in communities around the state, the network will have dedicated reporters – veteran political multimedia journalist (MMJ) Molly Martinez and MMJ Taylor Popielarz – covering the state capitol and the Ohio congressional delegation on Capitol Hill.

“We’re thrilled to launch Spectrum News 1, a new format for 24/7 news in Ohio,” said Alan Mason, Group Vice President-General Manager, Spectrum News South/Midwest. “Spectrum News 1 will serve the greater needs of viewers in Ohio through a statewide news format and the creation of original programming and content that is reliable, objective and relevant.”

Every Monday through Friday starting at 6 AM, viewers can tune to Spectrum News 1 for the most essential statewide news and stories of the day with Anchor Sophia Constantine, with up-to-the minute local weather reports by seasoned forecasters Erin Carroll and Robyn King.

Starting at 5 PM, Spectrum News 1‘s Curtis Jackson anchors the evening news, providing a recap of the day’s most important stories and preparing Ohioans for the next day. Meteorologist Andrew Kozak also reports on the weather throughout the state.

On weekends, Spectrum News 1’s Lindsay Oliver helps viewers get an informed start to their day starting at 7 AM. In the evening, Spectrum News 1’s Chuck Ringwalt and MaryLee Melendez cover the top news starting at 7 PM.

Spectrum News 1’s in-depth programming also includes "In Focus with Mike Kallmeyer," the network’s 30-minute local public affairs show that airs on Sundays at 10:30 AM.  "In Focus" provides a respected platform that allows Spectrum viewers to connect with their elected representatives at the local, state and federal levels.

"Conversations," a weekly half-hour show that goes one-on-one with the state’s top political leaders, innovators, and sports standouts, airs Sundays at 7:30 PM.

Spectrum News 1 is the exclusive home of the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) state football playoff and championship games, and boys’ and girls’ state basketball championships. The network’s high school football coverage is anchored by the "High School Blitz" show that begins with live games at 7 PM and concludes with an hour-long wrap-up show at 10 PM.

The network’s sports programming also features Ohio State football coverage including live post-game highlights and analysis, and live coverage of head coach Urban Meyer’s weekly news conference on Mondays during the season.

Spectrum News 1 airs on channel 1 across Ohio.
