Spectrum Networks Averaged 2.7 Million Daily Viewing Households in June
STAMFORD, Conn. – Spectrum Networks was the most watched broadcast and cable news network by Spectrum customers in June, averaging more than 2.7 million daily views across all linear and digital platforms in its nine-state footprint. Additionally, in five of the networks’ 11 metered markets – Buffalo (+29%), Charlotte (+7%), Cleveland (+4%), Raleigh (+6%) and Tampa (+1%) – Spectrum News had the largest month-over-month Nielsen rating increase as compared to the local broadcast stations*. The Spectrum News App continued to grow its audience, adding 255,000 authenticated users in June, a 13% month-over-month increase and largest increase since March.
In June, coverage of international, national and local politics and policies continued to drive viewer engagement with Spectrum Networks. On June 16, live network-wide post-analysis of President Biden’s press conference following his summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin was the most viewed broadcast or cable station in terms of viewing hours across all markets where Spectrum News is available. Spectrum Networks’ two-week series, “Driving the Border: Mile by Mile,” documenting the impact of changing immigration policies along the 1,500-mile U.S.-Mexico border, drove higher viewership on linear TV and more than 3,500 visits to the app. The premieres of each day’s morning live shot from a border city drove audience gains of nearly 10% in California and Texas. In the app, “Driving the Border” article views in Texas and California averaged almost 50% higher minutes spent per story than all other app stories during the two-week period.
“Our viewers continue to turn to us for unbiased local news, politics and weather, both on our linear channels and our digital platform on the Spectrum News App,” said Mike Bair, Executive Vice President of Spectrum Networks. “Our reporting in June, led by our special series covering issues along the U.S.-Mexico border, provided new depth and perspective, giving viewers a complete picture of the people, places and policies that impact their daily lives.”
Locally, Spectrum News NY1’s and Spectrum News 1 Upstate New York’s coverage of the New York primary elections drew substantial increases in linear and digital viewership. In New York City, NY1’s special primary night election coverage on June 22 earned a 0.43 Nielsen Household (HH) rating from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m., more than twice as high as the network’s previous 30-day weekday average during that time block. NY1 had a higher increase in HH ratings (+115%) than ABC (-25%), Fox (-24%), NBC (+54%), CBS (+19%), MSNBC (+5%), Fox News (+1%) and CNN (+1%).
