EL PASO – Spectrum, The Borderplex Alliance, The City of El Paso and El Paso County today announced plans for Spectrum to add 929 jobs in El Paso by year-end 2023, continuing the company’s expansion in the city. In April 2020, Spectrum announced plans to add more than 350 employees at its El Paso sales operations center.

More than 500 of the new jobs will establish the El Paso-based hub of the company’s Customer Chat platform, in which employees serve more than 31 million customers via live chat, providing troubleshooting, billing and customer education support. An additional 420-plus roles will dramatically expand its Video Repair customer service organization in the city, where representatives provide bilingual over-the-phone support for Spectrum TV®, repair services and customer self-installation assistance.

“A rich, diverse pool of workforce talent in El Paso, combined with our strong partnerships with The Borderplex Alliance, The City of El Paso and El Paso County, made further expansion in El Paso extremely compelling,” said Cliff Hagan, Executive Vice President, Customer Operations for Charter Communications, Inc., which offers broadband, mobile, video and voice services under the Spectrum brand. “We look forward to our new El Paso-based Video Repair and Customer Chat employees joining us in our continuing commitment to delivering great service across our 41-state service area.”

Minimum Starting Wage of $18 an Hour, Plus Robust Benefits

All the new roles offer hourly wages of at least $18 an hour, as part of Charter’s commitment to a $20 minimum starting wage in 2022. Along with highly competitive wages, Spectrum provides comprehensive health benefits, and for the past eight years, has absorbed the full annual cost increase of medical, dental and vision coverage. The company also offers a market-leading retirement plan, with a 401(k) that matches the first 6% of employee contributions, plus a Retirement Accumulation Plan with an additional 3% company contribution, for which most employees are eligible. And Spectrum employees can receive up to $5,250 per year in education assistance, as well as complimentary and discounted Spectrum services.

“After a very competitive process, I am thrilled that Charter Communications has elected to expand their operations in El Paso,” said El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser. “Our city’s business-friendly environment and our talented, diverse and dedicated workforce will prove invaluable to them, and they are exactly the type of blue-chip company that will drive new job growth and investment in our region.

“The 929 positions they are adding, coupled with competitive salaries well above our median county wage, will be a major economic boost for our workforce. We celebrate Charter’s expansion and commend our economic development teams and our partners at the County of El Paso and The Borderplex Alliance. This has proven once again that working as a team we can accomplish great things for our region.”

These new jobs expand upon Spectrum’s existing El Paso workforce, which also include the local technicians who do installation and service work in customers’ homes and businesses, as well as maintaining the company’s local broadband networks.

Jon Barela, CEO of The Borderplex Alliance, said, “After a difficult year battling a global pandemic, this significant expansion from Charter shows the Borderplex region is not only recovering from the Coronavirus pandemic, but thriving and growing stronger.”

El Paso County Judge Ricardo A. Samaniego said, “Our region’s strong workforce continues to attract investment from premier companies like Charter. As we work to recover from the pandemic, there is no doubt that these kinds of opportunities are vital to help boost the health of our economy. We welcome their expansion and the many additional jobs they will create in the crucial field of telecommunications.”
